He’s not getting the concept.

Quality counts so much more than quantity

Not “they" — “he or she”. An individual can’t be a “they”.

Old adage: The price of having a friend is being a friend.

It works for me all of the time. I have lots of “friends”.

I talk with a lot of people, and show interest in them, but not many people seem to actually want to be friends anymore.

A wiseguy once said, “Always be sincere, whether you mean it or not.”

Pretend friends!

Earl, you have two accomplices to make friends. Take Roscoe for a walk and have Nelson tag along. Although most of those will remember Roscoe and Nelson by name. You will be referred to as that guy with Nelson and Roscoe.

Picky, picky. lol

Because people often do not enunciate, tend to talk in machine gun bursts, using slang or local dialect, and because I am slightly hard of hearing, I find that I must concentrate on what they are saying to understand them.

This gives them the impression I am far more interested in what they are saying than I am.

As Bobby “The Brain” Heenan said, “A friend in need is a pest”.

I don’t know why Opal looks at the ceiling so often. Maybe they have bats!

Breathe, Opal. Sometimes it takes a lot of patience to deal with Earl.

After all these years, I can say I only need one friend, and I’ve been married to her for over fifty years now.

Having lots of friends is highly overrated.

Most married men don’t want friends.Having a wife is enough.

I think he’s missing something………..LOL

I showed a lot of interest in the Little Red Headed Girl, gave her bags of peanuts, and she still married Charlie Brown.

Oh, yeah! When we were little and we were going to family gatherings, my mom took my sister and me aside and told us that if a grown-up wanted to tell us or teach us something, we were to be interested. I took it literally, as is my habit, and learned to really BE interested in all sorts of stuff. I learned a lot of interesting stuff, too. To this day, I’m glad she didn’t say “act like you’re interested.” Go, Mom!

Maybe that’s why I don’t have many friends. I’ve never pretended to be interested.

After reading “ALL” the comments, had to go back and read the original comic as I forgot what it was about …… :)

I like my circle small, I’m old, I’m grumpy, leave me alone. Right on Earl.

Once you learn to fake sincerity, the rest is easy.
