I miss the days when you’d pull all the tubes out of the TV set (after discharging the capacitors by using the cat) and take it into the repair shop and just toss that nasty old picture tube into their back room. Good times!
Brookins is either recycling or showing his fake Pluggerhood. Broadcast went digital only in 2009. An analog TV can only work with a converter box, which controls the input & has a remote. Dropping cable, getting a decent antenna, and relying on streaming is now the anti-Plugger thing.Or maybe they’ve spent the last 10 years trying to clear the static.
When all the stations went digital, that was the end of my old RCA. At the time, it was 20 years old and still worked great. I have moved across town, then out of state and was glad I didn’t have to lug that “portable” 25" around.
I hated repairing rotary tuners. Worst ones were Sony’s that if not turned the contacts would corrode and actually lift. The fix was to spend a few minutes and crank the knob. That is what they said in the service bulletin
Actually We have One Fairly Big Universal Remote with Simple Controls and Easy to Read Backlit Keys on it. Factory remotes are for Basic Settings Only If Required and they store on the Components shelf’s.KISS

I’d be amazed if that type of TV is still working.

Do they still make TVs that you can change channels without a remote?

Since this is the set top box era, I don’t think anyone has to do that.

PJ always said the main reason his parents had him & his brother was so they’d have someone to get up & change the channel & adjust the rabbit ears.

With today’s digital everything, I can guarantee he isn’t doing that anymore unless he wants to. no more analogue airwaves!
