    Carmen’s sarcasm is spot on.

    Too bad Lincoln wasn’t there.

    He was in Philadelphia.

Trump’s covid policy has always been to infect as many Americans as possible.

Not that it matters. He is not capable of developing and executing a plan.

    .

Maybe one of the Trump Disciples can explain why it’s the states’ responsibility to respond to the virus, but the Federal government is trying to develop a vaccine.

America’s Soft-Power Outage Can Be Fixed — The U.S. has lost its ability to lead through attraction before, and has always regained it. Under President Donald Trump, the collapse of American soft power — the ability of a nation to influence others through attraction rather than coercion — is real, and it’s spectacular. Among 13 democracies, all of which are U.S. treaty allies or strategic partners, only in South Korea does a majority of the population have a positive opinion of America. In none of the 13 countries surveyed, moreover, does more than 23% of the population trust Trump to “do the right thing regarding world affairs,” putting him behind even Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping.

America has tarnished its reputation, and even made catastrophic errors, in the past; in each case, U.S. prestige eventually rebounded. One reason for this is that America’s reputation is about more than America’s president. The Pew survey indicates that foreign audiences believe the U.S. has become less committed to protecting the rights of its citizens. That the Black Lives Matter marches triggered solidarity protests in foreign countries may seem like a blow to U.S. prestige, but it actually highlights the ability of American social movements to inspire sympathy and emulation around the globe. That’s a form of power, too.

Americans shouldn’t be indifferent to the soft-power plunge of the Trump years. It shows how rapidly a democratic superpower can become the object of international resentment and even pity. Yet the genius of the American system has always been its capacity for self-correction. Once the Trump era is over, we will learn whether American soft power remains as resilient as it has been in the past.

Any sliver of hope to avoid a Republican wipeout slipped away from President Trump on Thursday morning thanks to his refusal to attend the next presidential debate in a virtual format (necessitated by his covid-19 diagnosis), his hysterical demand that Hillary Clinton be indicted and his decision to throw insults at Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala D. Harris (he called her a “monster,” “totally unlikable” and a “communist").

It is noteworthy that one of Trump’s objections to a virtual debate is that the moderator can cut you off. In other words, deprived of the chance to bully and interrupt, Trump is pitifully weak.

Trump’s latest crazy-talk should suffice to convince all but his sycophantic enablers that he is entirely unable to perform the duties of his office.

The difference between the two campaigns — one calm and winning, the other unhinged and losing — is evident. ✁

The reckless disregard for others’ well-being and the gross insults at the only African American woman ever to be on a major presidential ticket will only heighten Trump’s problem with women.

It is noteworthy that the most memorable line of the VP debate may have been “Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking.” There is not a woman in America who has not been talked over, interrupted or put down by a male peer. The all-male Republican ticket remains oblivious.

World’s most prestigious scientific publications issue unprecedented critiques of the Trump administration-

Things I didn’t expect to be controversial in 2020:

    Vaccines save lives

    Humans are changing the climate

Wearing masks reduces the transmission of disease

Renewable energy is the way of the future

    The Earth is round

You should follow the advice of experts who have spent decades studying their field, not random people off the street

    …and yet here we are.

Notice that Mr Stantis does not appear to be 2 weeks behind the news.

Regarding the two week delay, even I noticed this one. BUT!

I’m thinking it’s mostly coincidence that Trump had his campaign rally – er – “town hall” in Florida on the same night that the debate was supposed to be. Hence, my comment above, noting that while Douglas was in Florida, Lincoln was in Pennsylvania.

I wonder how many people have ever actually read the Lincoln/Douglas debates and would understand the reference.
