While, yes, fireworks can be bad for our furry friends, I wish people would remember that there are humans who are also greatly bothered by neighborhood displays. Veterans & others with PTSD, people with audio-sensory issues (like my younger daughter)…I wish people would leave fireworks to the professionals.
It’s illegal in my city, but yet they do it anyway. I worry about kids getting hurt or fires starting. Red has the right idea, though. People seem to try and fill up their emotional void with that stuff!
Tomorrow night will be so bad here with fireworks in a suburban city that the air will be hazy, more so than even the smoke coming from Canadian fires lately. The noise will rattle my windows and I will lose a lot of sleep. My dog was afraid for a few years, not too badly since she was raised around shotguns, but so far this week with all the fireworks going off she has not been fazed. Tomorrow, she will probably be very fazed and there is nothing I can really do except stay calm and hope she takes a cue from me, plus pet her often and have a TV on a bit loud. It could be the same for tonight, too. And all next week.
Approximately half of humans in the US have pets. Almost all of those pets are terrified of fireworks and we can’t explain to them that it will stop, and unlikely to harm them in their own homes. Cities allow the fireworks. Why do the cities not delegate a safe, quiet place where people can take their pets? Or a far away place where people can take their fireworks? It’s just cruelty to animals to allow fireworks around them.
Any good dog owner would know better than to shoot off any fireworks that has a report.I apologize to all dogs and other pets that will be suffering over the next few days….

How does the fire work? How does the butter fly? Why did the cow slip? Etc.

Not much bothered our Rugby, but Fireworks, oh boy. He would be traumatized. Hide and shake. Hard to watch.

Our city had its fireworks display July 1. It might be because since the pandemic there aren’t enough pyrotechnicians to go around.

There were two distinct groups of fireworks shooters Sunday night. The gabapentin we are giving Sheela is helping.

Yeah, Red know dogs hate fireworks – so he tries to calm Rover by playing it down.
