Think it’s time for you guys to go into the house under a fan or air conditioning. (and yes, air conditioners were around during Red’s era, googled it. And considering dad’s job, one was affordable, lol)
Had the same bike in 69. Schwinn Apple Crate with the 5-speed gear shift. It met it’s demise after an Evil Knievel inspired jump. Broke in half, ha. Had to cut a lot grass to get a new one.
My brother had Schwinn Apple Crate and I had a the Lime Crate variation. Learned how to operate a derailleur mechanism and basic bike maintenance. First bike I owned with caliber brakes and such. Good times.
In Mexico, specially the Southern States (namely the Yucatan Peninsula) where electric generation is not sufficient (how is the “Mexican Grandad” going to get the volts for the electric engines of his so called rain forest cutting and ecodisaster Maya Choo Choo, I don’t know, I guess he’ll throw Merida back to the 19th Century) and power is brought through lines through the rain forest all the way from the Mexican Continent you only turn on your A/C at night, despite the fact it’s a hot, humid summer all year. You get used to it! I did as a teen while staying there a couple of years. Private schools allow shorts for Elementary and Middle School Students by the way, some HS Students are now allowed to do so to.

Never had tires melt, but coming home with a tread of tar and gravel? Yep.

It’s so hot the cows are producing evaporated milk.
It’s so hot that I have taken to leaving the toilet seat up just to get those chilling, icy stares from my wife.
It’s so hot chickens are laying hard-boiled eggs.
It’s so hot I started putting ice-cubes in my waterbed.
It’s so hot even my wife’s heart is melting.
It’s so hot you can wash and dry your clothes at the same time.
It’s so hot I almost called my ex so I could be around something shady.
It’s so hot everyone is wearing sweat pants.
It’s so hot the birds are using oven mitts to pull worms out the ground.
It’s so hot I bought a loaf of bread and by the time I got home it was toast.

I know someone whose motorcycle fell over when the kickstand went through the blacktop in the driveway. It was the hottest day in July that year

Way cool! Red has a Stingray bike, with the early gearshift. Ape hangers, banana seat, those things were to die for back then. Lucky kid!
