Not if it was an invitation or a note mentioning something past. (Incidentally, my husband always has me proofread his notes; I was once assistant proofreader for an advertising agency.)
I had to stop doing this once I realized EVERYONE was making huge mistakes on email and letters. I once got a monthly update letter from the CEO that had spelling and grammar mistakes in it. It’s impossible to respect anyone in a leadership position who can’t get a simple written communication correct when they have spellcheck and grammarcheck.
It’s hard for a former English teacher to put a sock in it, but I try – I try. A commenter on another site descended into incoherence, but I controlled myself.
Somebody in a Sherlock Holmes discussion group I was in deduced that Bill Gates is Prof. Moriarty because he had spell-checked Mycroft (Sherlock’s brother) and it changed to Microsoft.
A tangent of this discussion is the constant mis-use of “you and I” (in the objective case) along with similar constructions. My all-time favorites go back a few years:.1) Hillary Clinton at the Kennedy Center – “It is an honor for my husband Bill and I to be here.”.2) Jay Leno at the start of one of his monologues – “Today is my wife and I’s anniversary.”.Is there any hope for the English language (especially when non-native speakers have a better understanding of the grammar)?

spell-check is great. It says my name is wrong and everyone on my e-mail list spell their names wrong.

Spell-check is worthless if your common sense doesn’t recognize you’re typing the wrong spelling of certain words.

This “idyllic” marriage relationship is not always what it’s cracked up to be.
