Having known a few teachers, that about sums it up.

At least with all this virtual teaching, the homework has to be E-Mailed to the teacher and thus readable.

I used to be a high school teacher. This is the truest comic I have ever seen.

I really like today’s strip. My mother taught for forty plus years. My wife taught for thirty plus years. My daughter is in somewhere around her 15th year of teaching. I know all about what teachers do when they are not in school. The idea that they have the Summer off is a joke if there ever was one.

Question, does a teacher have that much homework to grade for what appears to be 1st or 2nd grade students? I can see the lesson planning and such like. But at that age I would think that the homework would be on the light side.

My wife is in her 23 year teaching. She is about in tears most days because of the frustration with the tech and constantly changing situation between virtual and in-person. She is putting in 14 hour days almost 7 days a week.

My husband was executive director of a day program children’s mental health center which had a preschool through high school program plus counseling services. Was, because even at his level – with a principal and a director of the mental health program under him – it was all the work was too overwhelming for him and he had to take early retirement. (Then again, he did have to deal with state department of mental health and state department of ed and they never agreed or anything. One would come in and say that the agency had to do “A”. The other would then come in and say that the agency was NOT allowed to do “A”.)

Do the schools provide email addresses for the children to use for themselves if the family does not have same? Unfortunately not everyone has Internet or email. This has been a major problem with schools going online. School districts have been trying to get hot spots out to families without Internet including having school buses drive around and sit in different locations with the hot spots for the children to have access during the period a hot spot is their area (good use as otherwise the buses would sit unused and the bus drivers would not be paid as they would not be working. One family the children had to wait for their father to come home from work and then take turns using his cell phone to do their homework as it was the Internet they had. Another family has been driving to a McDonalds and the children use the McD wifi in the parking lot to do homework.

And then there are families such as my SIL. They are upper middle class and have one computer that even the 18 yo and her 11 yo sister (mentioned in another post) do not know how to use it. SIL has 3 drawers of SSD cards with photos and asked husband what to do with them to use less physical space. He told her to copy the photos to their hard drive. Neither SIL, husband, nor the daughters knew how to copy a file!! We had to go there and show them how!
