My wife took an Abstract class a few years ago, with the idea that not having to look like anything was her ability level. I take delight in seeing what they look like (e.g. a bit beach or seafloor depending on how one of them was turned). She did progress to primitivism in time to give some as party favors for her 60th birthday.
After his career in British politics, Winston Churchill took up oil painting. It’s been said that, for his first painting, he was ready to go, but….“buck fever”.
