So sad that so many people fell for that scam. No, she does not have a star named after her. All she has is a fancy piece of paper and, possibly, her name entered into a book somewhere. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is the only body assigning names and those names are the only names recognized as legitimate. Stars are NEVER named after a living person – even by the IAU. What is doubly sad is that these scams are usually given as gifts and the giver never realizing that it was a scam. A girlfriend gave me one once and I never had the heart to tell her the truth.
That whole “buying a star” thing is bunk. There is an organization called the International Astronomical Union that is in charge of giving stars and other celestial bodies their official names. “Official” means the names that the objects will be referenced by in serious astronomical journals and academic papers.
I actually got a certificate saying I own a mass of land in Scotland. It states that I was a lord/lady. It was a gimmick used to preserve natural landscapes.

When stars dance, galaxies watch in awe.

I remember when some candy company was selling a square inch of land on the moon … for a quarter. Always wondered how they made out.

I hope that she doesn’t think that someday she might read in a science magazine that astronomers discovered a planet orbiting the star Rose Gumbo.

What a sweet gesture.

Rose’s “smile” in the last panel makes me think that Rose isn’t impressed with Jimbo’s idea of fun.
