A thumb will work, but the cross has the advantage of having known dimensions to acquire the proper scale. There is still the matter of how distance affects size as a proper ratio, though. But that’s just math.
I can relate!I literally can’t draw a straight line. My sister trained as an architect, so we joke that she draws the straight lines and draw the other stuff.(She’s now a realtor, and when she sells a house she gives the new owners a beautiful ink rendering of it.)
