I tried to learn how to play golf. For twenty years, I tried. In two decades, all I managed to do was lose golf balls, catch the occasional bout of poison ivy, and kill a few snakes. One day, I chucked my bag into the lake and took up ten-pin bowling. To this day, I can state with absolute assurance that in a bowling alley, I have never lost a ball, never caught poison ivy, and have yet to see a snake on the lanes. I hold with Sir Winston Churchill who once described golf as a lovely walk in the countryside ruined.
