This is sort of how it goes for the USWNT: Interest during the Women’s World Cup (and subsequent “victory tour”) for 3-4 months every four years. The remaining three years, eight months? PFFFTTT.
I was a huge World Cup fan since I was a little child. Didn’t watch a single match this year because of all the human rights violations in Qatar. FIFA is officially dead to me.
I played soccer for three years in high school because I didn’t have the build for football, no matter how much I lifted weights. Soccer was a great sport to play when I was a kid; it gave me a chance to be involved in sports. That’s where it stopped, though.
I can’t stand watching soccer either in person or on television. There is just nothing worse.
If they want to have an audience in the States, they should do the following: eliminate the goalie, eliminate offsides, and reduce the goal by two thirds. That MIGHT make it more exciting.
I just tuned into the Fenway Bowl to see the score. Very, very poor attendance. Being an old guy, I think that’s good. I’m tired of the endless proliferation of bowl games.
I’ve been on safari when a Three Nations Cup game was coming up. We stopped in mid-hunt, hooked up the satellite phone, opened some beers and watch South Africa get thrashed by the All Blacks. A man can get really fond of biltong under the circumstances.

Nick and Kate’s comic strip, “Second Chances” is a rare find. I hope they re release it someday.

I’ve tried. Soccer is boring.

I haven’t watched the Olympics in years, mainly because the sports I’m interested in aren’t popular enough to be broadcast, like handball.

I’m a fan of “Welcome to Wrexham” – fortunately they usually stick to highlights and bad flops there.

I love World Cups – so long as they’re Rugby World Cups.
