Grumble grumble… our boy is in a mood. Oh yeah he’s a cat. They are always in a mood. And it can change in a split second! Gotta love ‘em!
I’ve been in a mood the last few days. I’m tired of being stuck in the house and scared to go out. And if people won’t wear masks, we are never getting over this. It’s simple: if I can’t give it to you, and you can’t give it to me, the virus won’t spread and it will be over. Yet some woman on the news last night said nobody has the right to tell her to wear a mask! Does that mean she doesn’t use her seatbelt either? Sheesh…
The warehouse may not be Paradise, but it’s better and safer than the streets. You don’t know how good you have it there compared to how feral cats live. Go home, Chesney, where you have Annie who feeds you and loves you and takes good care of you.
We’ve been getting so much rain, I wish it would stop for a while. I even saw some street flooding on my way to work yesterday. I had just turned onto Pleasant View Road and I noticed cars were stopping a lot. I soon saw why. The street was flooded. But car after car went through the flood water. Not me. I stopped and watched the other vehicles drive through it and I decided it was too deep for me to go through without damaging my car. So, I turned around and took another route. More rain fell through the first few hours of my workday.
And what a long, boring day it was! With the rain, there was nothing to do outside. The plants didn’t need watering and I couldn’t do markdowns on them because the stickers wouldn’t stick on wet flower pots, so I had to work inside all day. I got my areas all straightened up, then went over and straightened up in foods and soon that was done and I had hours stretching out ahead of me with nothing to do. BORING!!! I’m happy to say that after today, I’m taking a few more vacation days (July 1-6) so I can do fun stuff.I get 176 hours of paid time off (that would be vacation and personal hours) each year. But starting next year, I’ll get 216 hours of paid time off. That’s going to be really nice! It goes up to 256 hours 5 years from now.
To Dean from yesterday’s comments – Nope – I don’t get a discount on milk at Walmart. We get a 10% discount on general merchandise, but don’t get a discount on many foods. Oddly enough, we DO get the discount on junk food and candy and stuff, but not things like canned or frozen fruits & vegetables, bread, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, soups, etc. We used to get it on fresh produce, but I’m not sure if that’s still the case. We stopped selling produce at my store a couple years ago. They do give us our discount on foods for a few weeks, starting just before Thanksgiving and going to New Year’s, but some state law makes it so that discount does not apply to milk or other dairy products. So, yes, I get my milk cheaper getting it for $1.99 at Kwik Trip rather than spend $2.52 at Walmart. Even if I got the discount on milk at Walmart, I’d only get 25 cents off, so it would still cost more at Walmart.
I took the dogs for an early morning hike today. We went on an obscure trail just feet from one of the most popular trails in the eastern Sierra, and had 4 lovely high altitude lakes to ourselves. The other trail has more spectacular scenery but it becomes like a freeway by mid morning. I cherished the solitude, cool but sunny windless weather and lack of mosquitos. We saw a dipper, or water ouzel at one lake. This cute little grey bird with a bobbed tail actually walks under water to feed, and has a beautiful song. They will often nest behind a waterfall (saw one in Banff!) or under a bridge over a rushing creek. I believe they are strictly in the west.
I bet that poor snail wishes he could get away from that sourpuss Chesney a LOT faster! On another note, saw a raven, two robins, and three rabbits while out walking today. (Didn’t see any snails, though.)
This morning, the barn was not in a mess. I guess the raccoon/raccoons was/were still full. We had a severe thunderstorm come in about 2 p,m,….lots of lightning, wind and rain. At 3 p.m. a very wet mama raccoon climbed up on my bird feeder and proceeded to clean it out. I just let her eat since it was obvious she was nursing babies. After another storm hit about 8 p,m, with more bad lightning, at 8:30, she climbed back up on the feeder ( I had replenished) and chomped away.
