Alpha Cat Update Now, we’ve said it before, Alpha is a law unto himself. Two items of interest – first of all, for reasons known only unto himself, he has taken to wandering the kitchen at night and rearranging the plates and dishes on the counters. Not breaking things, not looking for food, he seems to be satisfying some unaccountable aesthetic desire on his part. He’ll move cups, plates, saucers as if he’s playing checkers. Very strange.
Of more import, one of our three other cats (we hesitate to label Alpha as only a cat) went missing. She’s small, it was dark, this is very rural Maine in the heart of Winter. We started looking around the property for her, calling, the usual thing, no sign of her. Alpha joined in the search. He led Pat onto the road three times and expected her to follow him. Pat followed him to the end of the driveway but demurred going down the road each time because it was dark and she didn’t want to risk becoming road pizza. Three time he tries, Pat demurs, he comes back in each time.
Finally Alpha goes out on his own. We keep an eye open. Yep, the Scarlet Pimpernel of cats (we’ve mentioned his propensity for rescuing other cats before) comes strolling back up the driveway with the missing cat in tow.
I’ll be damned if I know how he knows what we want. Definitely The Cat Who Walks by Himself.
Daylight Saving Time Begins. Hope you didn’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour if your area observes Daylight Saving. I know lots of people hate it, but I love that extra hour of daylight in the evening.
National Save a Spider Day
National Pi Day (NOT PIE day, though some people like to celebrate Pi day with pie).
Misty had a checkup at the vets on Friday, her breathing had been getting worse all week. The vet thinks that the dose of steroids she was on was too low, which is why her breathing has been getting worse, so we’ve upped it a bit. She will be getting a full steroid tablet for five days, and then move on to half a tablet a day as a maintenance dose, she had been on half a tablet every other day. I gave her a tablet on Friday evening, and by Saturday morning her breathing was a lot quieter, so it looks like the the assessment was right and the dose she’d been on was too low. We’ll see how she goes on the half-tablet-a-day dose, and take it from there. The main thing is her breathing is better than it was Friday morning.
Poor little Oliver. He shouldn’t have to be afraid of the orange menace.Got back from the short trip to Park City. It snowed all Fri night and was beautiful. (I know…everyone who lives in it hates it) The skiers and snowboarders were thrilled. Went out to eat for the first time in exactly a year. We still wore masks all of the time and all of the shops required them. However, there was an article in the local paper that one of the high schools will be holding its prom next week. The regular, most people go, dancing prom. Ididots.
WAIT. Oliver’s Birthday must be today!!!!! His Birthday Confessions!!!! How did I miss that? Happy Birthday Ollie. No need for a confession. That orange puddy earned that tongue for sure.
It’s Oliver’s Birthday? Well, in that case, Happy Birthday to one of the sweetest kitties in the world! :) On another note, Saw a robin, six juncos, and two Steller’s jays while out walking today.

Sweetest confession ever! Ms Shepherd responded to our well wishes on Snow Sez yesterday – certainly a sign that her health is moving forward!

Yes, you have to be very careful who you stick your tongue out to. One thing nice about masks.
