Hold pole at 45 degrees from level ground, measure height from ground to pole tip and length from noon day shadow on ground. Use Pythagorus equation to calculate rod length but apply non-Euclidian geometry if gravity is present. But I pedant…
Heard that same kind joke when I was a kid in the 60’s. The only difference was 2 guys trying to measure a flagpole. A passerby told them to remove the nuts at the base and lay it on the ground, same ending.
Sounds like school these days – if it is not a question on one of their mandatory tests – they don’t teach it. Most common sense has gone out the door and won’t come back.
Just have to love the great artwork that goes with the gag! Just enough detail to give an interesting background, and great character presentation! Really love the chef’s hat, and the barbeque totally engulfed in smoke as Brutus forgets what he’s doing and the food goes up in flames!

Then he’s going to use the pole to catch something for dinner, since whatever is on that grill right now won’t be edible.

It’s about an inch wide at most. What he needs to know is how long it is.

Can Wilberforce even guess at how deep his ignorance is (not how wide!)?
tinstar over 5 years ago
Since Wilberforce doesn’t know the answer, he’s just fishing for one.
