For those who don’t get it: George Michael was a popular pop artist from the 80’s, he started a band called Wham! with a friend. One of their biggest hits was a song called “Careless whisper”. This is one of the verses: “Guilty feet have got no rythm”. There you have it…
Never been so pleased to not get one of these. Thanks to jr1234 for posting a link but if I missed in the 80’s I’m confident I had a good reason then.TBNT
I miss Gilda. I can imagine her as Emily Litella, riffing on this punchline. “Who is this George Michael, and what does he think he knows about my feet? What? Oh. Never mind!”
I’m quite sure that when he wrote “Careless Whisper,” George Michael was thinking of the song “Never Gonna Dance” by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields, sung by Fred Astaire in the 1936 movie musical “Swing Time” and danced by him and Ginger Rogers. Fans of classic pop who don’t like George Michael in general, or think they wouldn’t like him, might be surprised if they were willing to give “Careless Whisper” a listen.

“If you remember the 60s, you weren’t there.” If you remember the 70s and 80s, well, unfortunately, you were there. Sorry about that.

“I will be your father figure, put your tiny hand in mine.” That was circa 1987-88.

I know the song. I got the reference. I love a good play on words, whether it makes me laugh or groan. But this one just made me roll my eyes.
