The comics page in my newspaper has lots of open space between the comics because they are too cheap to buy enough for a full page. They’ve brought in a bunch of new ones, too.

This toon was guaranteed to appeal to comic-strip lovers everywhere (also probably everywhen).

This reminds me of a nearly identical local comic in my University of Illinois newspaper in the 1980s. There was a strip called “When Comics Collide” that had several panels. One was Cathy the Horrible, with Cathy in some viking-like role complaining she put on weight and couldn’t fit in her armor.

The funniest one was a crossover between Calvin & Hobbes and Böner’s Ark, called “Calvin’s Böner”. It was not lewd, but it was definitely naughty, and ended up with Calvin’s dad saying “Put that back in your pants!”

True art! But I hope this doesn’t presage what we’ll get with the “brand-new GoComics” in April.
