This is a common misconception amongst the unwashed. No properly born person from the southeastern US – NO ONE – ever used “y’all” in the singular. It is always plural.
Not everyone who lives in the country is a farmer – me for instance, I don´t have a barn, ATV or live in a field and I have more chance of treading in muck in a town(dog muck)
Once when my dad was in college some girls with all sincerity asked where the hitching posts for horses were since they didn’t see any in front of the stores.
