And let’s not forget that due to the oddities of the Electoral College, in particular (but not limited to) the “winner takes all” policy followed by almost all the states, the popular vote may have little resemblance to the actual results. .In fact, a candidate can theoretically get almost 75% of the popular vote and still lose the election. Or in a race with three candidates one of them can get almost 50% of the popular votes and and the others 25% each… and still the guy with most votes may get no electoral votes at all!.Fortunately those are theoretical scenarios that are extremely unlikely in reality. But the mere fact that such undemocratic results are even possible shows how poorly designed the electoral system of the USA is.
