I need to go shopping. Means: I've got to get out of the house and relax for a bit. Maybe look at boots. I need to go shopping. Means: my need for something has now reached a critical point. I need to go shopping. Means: my obsessive desire for some trivial toy has driven everything else out of my brain. I need to go shopping. Means: I've been listening to overnight call-in radio again. I need bags of concrete and defensive weapons.

You know, I think I need to go shopping. Anyone willing to lend me a couple hundred?

Funny how the last panel sounds the most reasonable after you read the first three.

A friend of mine listened one night and heard about a secret underground prison for dissenters. He knew it well. I can say no more.

I’m one of the few women who hate shopping. I can only stand it for about an hour.

Reading Larry’s meaning reminds me of how I DO shop for some things in health & beauty departments that ARE needs, not mere desires like Sarah’s and Toby’s. Grocery shopping is mostly done after I’ve decided which of many recipes to follow for the week. And that depends on what items are on sale at which of several stores? Which of my ecoupons will expire soon? And which store has the best bargain for any one particular grocery?I never shop to relax. Close scrutiny is a part of shopping for clothes, shoes and kitchenware.

I hate shopping. Husband loves to walk around in stores – not buy stuff as if we can’t afford it we don’t buy it and generally not unless we need it.
My big time out alone is one day a month I get to go to a club meeting, return the soda bottles and run any errands he does not like to do.
