As an American living in Italy, land of long, slow lines, I have fantasized that US lines were much more efficient. Am I wrong?

Odd, here in Oregon we just do it all on line. Last time I was at the DMV there were only 2 other people there besides me I was done in less than 10 mins.

That’s not a snail, it’s a motor home. Same speeds though.

Years ago I stood behind a pregnant lady. A bunch of us had the child born, schooled, married and she had grandchildren before we got to a clerk. Wonder how the kid is doing?

When I lived back in Tulsa, the DMV line was long especially at the driving test centers. After I moved to Wyoming the process is much easier. It took me five minutes to renew a tag last time (two in line, three at the desk) and about ten minutes to get my licence (though you get a paper copy initially and they mail you the real one later)

In the words of a famous country doctor:

sherbert - It is mostly the government-run lines here that take so long. Private industry knows that they’ll drive customers away if they consistantly have to stand in line for a long time. But the government has a monopoly.

In VA, they encourage you to do as much as you can online (renewal) by taking $1 - $2 off your bill. In fact, they charge you an extra $5 if you opt to renew your car registration personally at the DMV!
