I was always skeptical of the euro. I think it’s just as well the Brits didn’t let Blair railroad them into giving up the pound.

The Canadians use dollars, not pounds. DJB

And we don’t have a dollar bill, either. The queen is on the twenty and most of our change though…

We have a gold coloured one-dollar coin, 11-sided – like the one created in the USA with the likeness of Susan B. Anthony (nice touch, Pab). It has a loon on the one side – hence the name “loonie” – and the Queen’s profile on the other. In the late 90’s we acquired a $2 coin. It is a two-ringed affair – silver coloured on the outer ring and a faded gold colour for the “bulls-eye”. Polar bear on the one side, Queen on the other. In the first year they were produced they were noted for breaking apart if dropped. Naturally, they came to be called “toonies” (twonies).

If we ever get a 5 dollar coin I’ll update you – but no rumours lately about that!

The red guy – Sir William Lyon MacKenzie King, $50 dollar bill. A Prime MInister of Canada

Purple – Sir John A. MacDonald, first Prime Minister of Canada (he and George could share some stories I am sure!) $10 bill

Blue – Sir Wilfred Laurier, another PM. $5 bill

I have to get out more. I live in northern Washington and spend some leisure time in Canada but I’ve never seen or heard all those insults. I thought "canuck"was just an alternate word for Canadian, as “Yankee” is used for American. The comments on this strip, and the strip itself,certainly educational.

A recent poll of Canadians asked the question “Are there too many immigrants in Canada?”21% said yes,11% said no, 68% responded : “Please, I am not to be understanding the question.”

And I thought this was going to be a dig at the film “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter”

On a trip to Vancouver ca 1998 it took me a bit to figure outthat the “Toony Bottles” advertised at a convenience store were $2 sodas.

Hey, you can’t blame us Yanks for wanting to get some of our own back after you beat our a$$es in 1812…not that we’ll admit it, of course.
