i did like james bond taking the queen heli jumping over the stadium. one thing though, why are they doing the history of england in the opening ceremony? the towie was meh.

I was quite impressed with the total production and think our cousins in the U.K. should give themselves a huge pat on the back. It was impressive !Aside from HRM and Bond taking the parachute route, I was especially moved when the torch was brought into the stadium through the cheering lines of the people who actually built it. Brilliant !

I WAS so disappointed int he coverage – I bet it would have better without anchors. LOVED the queen and Bond bit!

Most countries are the same, I suspect; unfortunately. I hope someone is working on an alternative and I don’t mean fuel from food. The third world is already losing out.

I remenber when I was a kid in Australia, most of the TV shows were from the US (60s). Green acres: Grindl; My Mother, the Car; Mr Ed etc Although I do remember a sci-fi programme made in Aus called “The Stranger”.

Am I the only one who thought of Dr Who and the Master with all the constant drumming? ;) The drums, the drums, the never ending drums! Actually I loved the whole show. I was about ready to smack the NBC announcers though cause they kept talking over the kids choirs. Hello, I didn’t tune in to listen to you people yak! But the next generation lighting the torch was amazing. Nice touch.

The Beijing opening was a tough act to beat. But the London opening didn’t compete – didn’t try to. It did it’s own thing. I think it went off brilliantly. Well done, Brits.

They cut Doctor Who from the ceremonies because they were running out of TIME. :(

now, the olympics have another controversy. too many empty seats at all events. sponsors took the best seats, and were no shows.

There’s an opinion piece on foxnews.com (go on, it won’t kill you!) written by a relative of one of the murdered. A very interesting take on why the IOC will never publicly hold a moment of silence or any other honor for the murdered Israeli athletes.

RE: British television vrs. U.S. television.Back in the 60’s and 70’s the U.K. fare on the telly was so far ahead of the U.S. in drama, humor, satire etc. that many U.S. shows from All In The Family, to Laugh In were direct copies of British hits. Materpiece Theatre was a huge imported success.I will never forget seeing Monty Python’s Flying Circus at friends’ flat in London. I was in tears from laughing. Television in the States could never have taken the risks in programming or in advertising that we did in the U.K. I know because I was working in the industry at the time in Ireland, the U.K. and in the U.S.A.
