I almost was an air traffic controller. I worked as one of the first civilian (and female) 911 operators in a major city for a few years, so I was used to dealing with stress and life and death situations. Then I heard the pay was better for ATCs, and I applied. After going out to the airport for an interview and such, I decided it would be too long a daily commute, so I dropped out.

My friend is a retired ATC. She started right out of the Navy and I don’t know how she did it for all of those years.
