Well, that announcement blew Wallace’s mind. Spud will be under the nearest seat.. Seagull will be the first off, leading the way.

Although, Amelia’s willing to open the door while the bus is still in motion…

What could possibly go wrong? Heh, heh.

Amazing how little school buses have changed in the last 50 years. Other than some safety doodads, pretty much the same box I rode in every day. Seems to me the emergency exit could be automatic by now.

Only good things happen when the seagull’s eyes match Wallace’s.

One of Wallace’s dream seems to have become true!

I’d think opening the Emergency Door would be their dream assignment, the stuff of lore, handed down from generation to generation thereafter and proudly related around the campfire – - – OK, I’ll stop now.

Wow – did the two boys shrink or shirk? Look at the size of them compared to the bus seat! Even standing, Spud is shorter than the seat back!

Wise to know that.

Perfect timing of the week

You ‘get’ to open the emergency door!? A grade school fantasy come true! If an emergency slide would inflate at the same time it would be epic.

In “Lead, follow or get out of the way” where does Spud land?

They are dead! ☠

That’s actually why they DO the drills in the first place, Spud, so you can learn how to be, if ever needed in a real emergency. ;)

I was in high school, late ’70’s, when they started doing this. We were on our way home when the bus suddenly pulled off the road, and the driver shut off the engine. We had no idea what was going on. She told us we had to do an evacuation drill – first time ever. We could tell she was not thrilled about it at all. One of the kids opened the rear door and we all got out, then back in. I’m guessing some higher-ups got their legal undies in a twist and decided we had to do this.

Imagine getting on a plane, then having the pilot come on the PA saying, “Folks, before we take off, we need to do an evacuation drill. Would the passengers next to the emergency exits kindly pull firmly on the red handles and open them, then everyone will slide down the chutes to the ground. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we will be able to get in the air.”

Spud, it’s a trap!

I continue to be amazed by Will Henry’s comic genius. His attention to detail and ability to put you there, to experience the emotion. The characters’ eyes say so much. You could remove the word balloons in the last panel and “get it.”

This will not end well.
