“H-hay fever? H-hay fever, absolutely h-horrid, h-horrid! I suffered from it on h-holiday once in H-helensburgh, yes, I was h-hibernating in the h-hotel the entire h-holiday!” (The Two Ronnies show, Garlic Breath sketch)
Get the Cornell app, ‘Merlin.’ It is the only useful reason to own a smart phone. It will identify bird calls and has pre-recorded calls that you can use to call back to the birds.
I love how Seagull is ever-present. In Monday’s strip he’s even got his own bed in Wallace’s room. He’s graduated from being just a bird up to pet status now.
My oldest daughter is a Freshman English teacher. As I am typing this post, she is sending me pictures from a presentation being given by a local owl rescue agency. The first picture was a Barred Owl. I wish I could attach the picture, but I cannot. Beautiful creature.
There were Barred Owls (not to be confused with barn owls) on a place I had in the country in SE Texas a few years ago. That is what they sound like, except when they cut loose with what sounds like a Howler Monkey.
I love this arc, but it’s tinged with melancholy for me. A barred owl was just found dead in a park in my Massachusetts town, and an autopsy revealed the cause was rat poison and that it had probably suffered terribly. Hopefully the good people of Snug Harbor know that there are better ways to control the rodent population than deadly chemicals. Owls being one of the best.

“The old hooty owl hooty-hoos to the dove…”
That’s a song lyric from 1957. Obviously the owl is not the only one who’s old.

Just remember to check the book occasionally. Wonder if it came with a CD.

We had barn owls. They were awfully unhappy about sharing the barn.

Give a hoot! Don’t pollute!
(sorry, it’s an old memory)
I wonder if this barred owl will know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop WITHOUT biting?
(there I go again)
8^)
