It may be smooth but I think he messed up with the perfectly round design. The curve in the front is much more steeper than the curve in the back. I would call it more of an egg shape.

Either come back with your shield or on it !

There are many types of shields, as in the Scutum for the Roman Legions and the kite shield of the Normans. Would this be the famous Snow Shield?

The Count is having warm fuzzy thoughts about Rodney playing in the snow with Calvin and Hobbes and their toboggan in the first strip. And, yes, it sounds like great fun!

I preferred the steerable runner sled. Face first into danger, pretending I could really steer.

I remember when Flying Saucer Sleds came out. Worked better in less snow, but were less steerable than a toboggan. (on the other hand, ½ the time you revolved before you hit anything, so you didn’t see it coming.)

That is what Capt America does on weekends in the winter. Why not.
