Rather than moving in an L-shape, I prefer to think of a knight’s move more kind of like (jumping over) one space horizontally or vertically (left, right, back, or forward) — like a rook — while/then veering off in that general direction one space diagonally — like a bishop.
Design a Chess version called, “Drunk Chess,” where each piece staggers slightly, but randomly, during their move. If the piece bumps an opponent’s piece during the move that opponent’s piece is captured along with any piece in the square the piece finally lands on. If the landing spot has a own piece, that piece is bumped one random square.
classically: the knight moves one square diagonally and one square orthogonally, but that was too “complicated” for a lot of people… which makes me wonder what kind of idiots are playing chess these days.
Chess has given me some of my best life memories. And watching speed chess streams is definitely not boring! A Tournament that’s playing right now has already had two instances of a Grandmaster missing a mate in one! ♞
I haven’t played in quite a while, I don’t have the patience to teach a beginner and I always say play someone better than you so I might just download a game on the phone.

Rod was the inspiration for Bob Seger’s song, “Knight Moves”.

The only piece that can jump others pieces is worth mentioning.

Oooh, a chess joke! I love chess! Rod’s right, the knight’s movement is L-shaped in any direction.

If only that was possible in chess — would de-boring the game.

I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain’t it funny how the night moves
