Although difficult to pick a best Doctor, I can easily say that Collin Baker was the worst.
It is a shame that many of the old episodes (William Hartnell/Patrick Troughton) were lost to the world.
The acting and stories are very good in many Doctor Who episodes. This is good since the special effects are often lacking, especially in the older doctors.
ALl Creature Great And Small is my favorite all time TV show. So naturally I’m biased toward Davison being in that role. Though he was memorable as the Dish Of The Day in The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Universe.
Before we ever got his episodes in syndication, the novelizations of Patrick Troughton’s stories made him MY favorite Doctor! Check out the restored 8-parter The Invasion (of the Cybermen)—they did animation on 3 episodes with the old sound track. It’s great, although Tomb Of The Cybermen is an even greater classic!
If they Colin Baker was the best Doctor Who then I could see the crazyness in the comment. He made Sylvester Mccoy look brilliant. They both also had the worst companions Mel and Ace
I think Hartnell definitely takes the prize if you take his health into consideration. The way he worked his very real memory lapses into his character was really quite remarkable.
Each actor brings his own ‘unique’ interpretation to the Doctor. They ALL are, basically, the same person. But Yeah, Tom Baker was the first Doctor I saw, so I guess that makes him My Doctor, Tennant ties with him.
That must have been some whammy for Roy and Kathy to discuss who played the best “Doctor Who”. As any true nerd would know, the character on the BBC series is referred to as the Doctor. (Peter Cushing played “Dr. Who” in a couple obscure movies.)
I have gone through most of my life thinking Tom Baker was the best /only Doctor…I just realized…I just really liked Leela. I am fond of Matt Smith though.

Only in Working Daze could a star trek argument involve the Jedi Mind trick and end up with Dr. Who argument.

All Doctors. Any Doctor, I don’t care. It’s the WRITERS who occasionally need to be shot!

Colin Baker was better than Tom Baker (that sound you hear is all the Who fans fainting…)
The audios prove that Doctors 5 through 8 could have been a lot better on television…

One thing about Dr. Who’s I love watching them once but they don’t have a lot of repeat value for me.
