Bring tuppence. I hear that’s a powerful way to open a bank account.

If you’ve never checked you likely don’t have a checking account.

The bank says that they are a trust company, but they chain the pens to the counter so no one will steal them. How trusting is that?

I remember my first bank account during the War. My mom would periodically give me some pennies to by stamps for my savings book. Last I remember it was almost full of stamps which yielded interest and if I’d hung on to it I’d be sitting pretty now…..sigh.

If she goes to school.. likely several credit card companies and banks have signed her up, heck she probably has air miles and points at the local grocery store.

Did she leave without it? Those chains are relatively flimsy.

Actually, it’s very easy to stick a pen in your pocket and walk away after using it with it without any intention of stealing- if it is not chained down.

I don’t know why they chain the pens down. The pens at my bank never work. I think they’ve been there since they built the bank.

I haven’t seen a pen on a chain at a bank in ages. The ones I’ve visited have jars full of them, and sometimes even encourage folks to take them.

(And I don’t think I’ve ever been in a bank with a security guard, let alone an armed one.)

Used to be an old Scotsman joke, from the days of fountain pens,, MacTavish’s brother wrote to him saying, please write back, remember, you can fill your pen at the bank.

Banks don’t use pens on chains anymore. And they don’t mind if you take one with you after you’ve used it — their advertising is on it.
