Disney should go back to its roots when Walt’s vision was to have engaging stories instead of saturating the public with movies. It’s no surprsie that Disney doesn’t want to further damage its image associated with fascism. Kudos to Tom Holland who cares for his Spiderman character enough to demand a quality sequel to “No Way Home”.
Disney got too big too fast. Musk is doing a pretty good job of f@#king himself. The only good thing to come out of that is X/Twitter may just go away.
Not all segments declined — businessquantDOTcom/disney-revenue-breakdown-worldwide
From Deadline:
“… Disney’s giant theme park division was first out of the gate in a post-pandemic recovery, showing giant jumps in revenue and profit due to pent-up demand. But the engine is sputtering.
Walt Disney World saw operating income dip in the June quarter. Domestic Parks & Experiences saw profits fall 13% to $1.4 billion, and revenue firm 4% to $5.6 billion.
Disneyland profit was up “modestly,” the company said in its latest earnings report. …"
Both seem to be following the tRump business plan, put tons of other people’s money into it then declare bankruptcy. I have not seen a good conclusion movie in ten years; including John Wick Fast and Furious and from what others have said the last Indiana Jones is following suit
If Disney’s movies are doing poorly it reflects a trend all of Hollywood is following. That is, hoping to make a franchise movie. They have become so risk averse and so bottom line oriented that creativity has gone out of the window. How many Fast and Furious movies, John Wick, Star Wars, Avengers of Justice League movies do we need to be subjected to? Do we REALLY need to see a live action version of Lilo and Stitch? Why do we need to reboot movies that had great originals?
There is very little new in cinema from the US these days.
Some people are very smart and/or have a great idea and manage to implement it. They become very rich because of their great idea, but they lack social skills. Because they are rich and successful, they develop a very high opinion of themselves, and no one points it out when they are being rude. No one says that not every word coming out of their mouth is genius, or that even very smart people can have dumb ideas that ought to be kept to themselves. Because toadying, I guess.

I don’t think it has anything to do with dropping advertising on a platform that now caters to Nazis, White Supremacists, and RW extremists.

March 12 2021 Disney was $197.16, Dec 1st, 2023 $92.58. Even worse, five years ago, it was over $111 dollars.
