Actually, this happened in college. They were negative rumors started by my then roommate in the dorm, freshman year. She was from a wealthy family and she didn’t want a roomie. If she had talked to me, I would have agreed to move to another room as she was a demanding, lousy roommate. No one wondered why I was solo in the dorms after that. I did wonder what I did according to her.
Ironically, she’s how I met my best friend. He heard the rumors and thought that no one could be that bad. He was right.
Back in the day one of my best friends and I were hanging for the evening. Upon parting ways i ran into someone who asked if I knew that my friend blew his brains out earlier that evening. Can’t make this crap up. I informed that person "I don’t think so. I just left him. "Tragically it was some other dude from our part of town that checked out. But it is pretty nutty how word travels fast and inaccurately at times.
A surefire way to make people close their mouths, that hasn’t failed me yet – say, “The things that you’ve heard about me, are probably as true as the things I’ve heard about you”.

At least the comics can still say what they want. Unlike us.

No darn it. I guess I’m just not that interesting. Hmmm, maybe I could start interesting gossip about myself. ;-)

Aunty, if you live life to the fullest, then the only rumors that can be started would have to be so outlandish that they could not possibly be true.

Heard ’em, heck I start ’em, just to see if anyone will believe ’em.
