Doggo Was Right: That Storm Was Bad News

One night, there was a bad thunderstorm, the sort with howling winds. My dog was whining at me, so I crawled out of bed to comfort her; she likes me more than my husband. My husband was still in bed, grumbling about my getting up.

As I cuddled with the dog in the living room to try to get her to calm down, there was a large crash. My husband screamed. I ran back to the bedroom and saw that a tree had fallen over into the bedroom and pretty much smashed the bed. It had knocked my husband out of bed, and he had a broken arm, but the way it had fallen would have killed me had I been in my usual space.

He was screaming partly because of his broken arm, but partly because he didn’t remember me crawling out of bed and thought I was trapped under the trunk.

That was a very expensive mess to repair, but I always refer to it as the night that my dog saved my life — albeit accidentally.

    Bad News Flies Around

(I am working at an ice cream and burger restaurant. I notice a dead fly in the strawberry ice cream. I discretely pull my manager aside.)

Me: quietly “There’s a dead fly in the strawberry ice cream. What should I do?”

Coworker: shouting “HEY! THERE’S A DEAD FLY IN THE STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM!”

    That’s why I watch NHK-World news. It’s not sensationalized.

The local news covered a police chase live, no other news on. They are chase-happy out here. There was even a service that paged members when a chase was found.

Newsworthy is something that is unusual or rare.

When good things become rare enough to be considered newsworthy, that is the time to get worried.

    The “bad” is tacit.

    If it bleeds, it leads.

Journalism has had its ups and downs over the centuries, but it seems to be at an all-time low at the moment.

“Evil” is not winning, just because that’s all you hear about. That’s all they report, but not all there is! (go ahead, correct my grammar, don’t care)

Aunty, it’s not the news that is bad, it is humans that are bad, after all they are the subject of the news.

Nothing new. Anne Murray did a song about it way back in 1983! “A Little Good News.”
