My son brought his son (8 mo. old) for us grandparents on a visit last week. He missed the first plane and had to fly into another airport while his bags made the first flight. It took 12 hours altogether and the baby was nice and cooperative the whole day then slept through the night. It was a Christmas miracle!

    Wow.

Saying the words “Nothing to do” in my house meant that you were about to vacuum the entire house.

    Truth.

Pre-bored; is that like waiting to get on Spirit-less Airlines?

Nothing to do when dinner’s being prepared? Nonsense! Set the table, chop the salad, etc. If you don’t help, then you don’t eat!

My wife and I routinely quoted the line from Eloise: “Being bored is not allowed” – and any child complaining that there was nothing to do would get a chore. We never got complaints of boredom.

Give them each three raw yams, some kite string, a fish hook, a spool of white thread, a can of chrome colored Rustoleum, a jar of jalapeño jelly, and a cowboy hat. Works every time.

Kids are revved up, excited before Christmas. They aren’t bored. But readers are.

That was one thing I learned to never, ever, in anyway shape or form, say to my mother. The list of things to do she came up with was longer than my dads ‘Honey-do’ list!

Which is why when the kids were little one of us would take vacation for the Holiday Vacation and the other one would take vacation for spring break. We would switch each year so no one got stuck with the same holiday two years in a row.

what a coincidence!! growing up in RI in 60’s, tv commercials for Prince spaghetti said Wednesday was Prince spaghetti day and for years every Wednesday my mom would serve Prince spaghetti with Hunt’s tomato sauce on it!!

I gave this a LIKE in sympathy for all the parents who will have to deal with this. As kids, we didn’t bug our parents too much this way. For one thing, we quickly learned that if we had “nothing to do” there was always work to be done, and for another, we quickly developed imaginations that provided all sorts of fun.
