No es divertido ser inmigrante legal cuando otros piensan que eres ilegal. (It’s not fun being a legal immigrant when others think you’re illegal.)

Sometimes comics say more then editorials and certainly say more intelligent things then politicians.

I don’t think anyone’s talking about deporting legal immigrants, it’s just those who tried to skip the legal immigration process. (Not that I like Trump.)

And how would the bigots distinguish between the legal and illegal immigrants? Will they expect to wear some form of identification, a Jewish Star perhaps?

Many natural born Americans of Latino heritage are harassed for being illegals. By white folks whose ancestors came and violently took over.

“It’s not fun being a legal immigrant when others think you’re illegal.”-Which just shows how prejudge works…by people with small, unintelligible minds.

Sigh. Who exactly is harassing legit business owners? Does anyone actually think an illegal alien would own a business in the open like that? Yeesh. I wonder how many citizens have actually been deported? Beyond minuscule is my guess. NO ONE is trying to do anything but stop illegal aliens from being here. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I guess he should have changed the name of his business to “Bermuda” to give a different connotation. >sigh< Luckily, it’s just a nightmare.

While I sympathize with the feeling expressed, these strips make my heart sink. As a teacher of small children, I have to face questions like, “Are they going to send us back to Mexico?” I’d like Donald Trump try to answer this frightened seven year old child’s question. This is a bright, English speaking child with much potential. So, these strips are too real for me, without humor or hope. Syria is bad enough. Please stop adding to the fear that already exists. There are sensitive souls. We understand all too well.

You DO realize, don’t you, that there are places in this country – such as California, Arizona and New Mexico – where Hispanics preceded Whites. Who’s the illegal alien now?

I know it’s a dream—and a comic strip—but still: how did the brick land on the sidewalk when it was presumably thrown from the truck?

I have a friend who is about 70. He came to the USA from Mexico when he was younger. He became a citizen, worked his whole life, and then retired well. He was in a store waiting in line at the checkout. Another fellow who speaks Spanish came up to him and they started dialoguing in Spanish. The lady ahead of them said to the cashier, “If they want to speak Spanish they should just go back where they came from.”

It has happened, as drkala said above, in the 1930’s. Depression era job seekers deported anyone brown. In some areas (Colorado) where there could be no confusion because everyone knew the Mexicans had been there since the 1500’s they just beat the kids in school for speaking Spanish & taught everyone to mispronounce all the place names. Pee-eblo?

if you think it can’t happen here, remember they rounded up legal citizens during wwii, the japanese. both ones born here as well as there. they were deprived of their property which was never returned. we are all a few steps from being the next ones to be treated like that. as a jew and a gay i know there’s no safety ever.

Many have said “this sort of thing doesn’t happen here anymore”. Well, rocks are still thrown through windows, nasty letters are still sent (anonymously, of course), and people are still ostracized. Not just Hispanics or others of colour; those seen as “outsiders” come from many demographic groups, homosexuals, those accused of sexual crimes, various ethnic groups, members of different economic classes, people from other regions of the country, urbanites, “country folk”, to name but a few.

TandembuzzWere they members of the German-American Bund? One million (out of 150 million total Americans) were members, including Charles Lindbergh, who was Quisling, not German.

Back in the 1840s, there was the “Native American Party”, the Know Nothings". They were so adamantly against immigrants (except for themselves) that they wanted the Red Indians sent back to Siberia!
