But think about it: Every single item in an antique store once belonged to somebody and might have been an important part of their lives. And now here it is, heaped in an anonymous pile.
Look around at what you have. Someday it might end up in an antique store, too, and some stranger will be picking it up and wondering who used to own it and what their story was.
My wife buys things she doesn’t need because, “It’s so cheap.” And if something is free it is a sacred obligation to take it. I blame her father. If you offered him a box of broken glass and said, “It’s free!” he would take it and ask if he could have a second.
The things may have even be things that were treasured, but what is even sadder is seeing so many of their treasures in a dumpster, including old photo albums that there isn’t anyone to treasure them or want them or care at all…
I walk every day, health and weather permitting, and I almost always stop by the local thrift store on my way home – for the AC if nothing else. I get some nice clothes for $1 (they have a different color tag on sale every week, and I always look for that), plus fabric, yarn, books, music, and occasionally knick-knacks.
Just because someone else didn’t want it, doesn’t make it trash.
I have a sewing table in my living room that once belonged to my Mom’s great-great aunt. Every time Mom told the story it went back another two or three generation. I believe t was a wedding gift to Eve from Adam’s maternal line great-grandmother by the time Mom passed.

Looks like she’s recovering from the “D” she got. Hope she learned her lesson!

There is an old saying “One man’s treasure is another man’s treasure.”
For us the treasure is the enjoyment of the items – not the dollar value of them.
