I always thought it should be green Friday because everything you buy is paid in green.

I think it got its name from when a business could finally show a profit (BLACK ink in the accounting books), as opposed to losses (red ink). The time & day of the year, when a business can usually make the most money in a single day.

Took me a moment. I have no intention of going anywhere near a store today.

Sales and online shopping since Hallowe’en, then the ‘insane’ cuts today. Add to that the days of deep reductions in the next week or so. Early cuts and generally poor timing. Big biz has been complaining about ‘red’ Decembers for years. They don’t have to look far to find the reason.

Not ‘Green Friday’, it should be called ‘Plastic Friday.’

President Roosevelt (Franklin, not Theodore) tried to get Thanksgiving moved to earlier in November to extend the Christmas Shopping season. He failed. However, businesses have now prevailed and the Christmas Shopping season now starts the day after Labor Day.

A visual joke. Black as pitch Friday. Also reminds me of an old TZ about the day the sun never rose, in preparation for a hanging of a prisoner.
