Don’t forget red light cameras. They reduce red light violations and increase rear end collisions.

That is false logic, a lack of cameras does not mean a disregard of safety. One might argue that those who have cameras need them because people there are unsafe drivers while those without cameras don’t need them as their drivers are safer.

At least in the UK they warn you that speed cameras are ahead. I guess they think it’s more sensible to slow you down than collect fines from you.

According to the Chief of Police of an Oregon city that is basically supported by a speed camera: No. The camera has made no difference in the accident rate.

Traffic cameras in California have been outlawed because it has been shown in court that the cameras can be hacked and images faked. YMMV

My wife always used to complain that I drive too fast. Shortly after moving to a new city I got a photo of our car in the mail. OH OH! I surreptitiously checked this $125 ticket out, looked at the calendar and handed it to my wife. “I think this is yours” (she was the only one who had the car out that day). She complains less now. My last ticket was in 1975, hers is recent!

Yes, robots issuing tickets does make us safer. Just google the statistics.

No, safety is just an excuse. This is an opportunity for you to contribute to the welfare of the city as often as you wish.

That’s why I live in the sticks. We use deer to remind us of the dangers of excessive speeds.

Where I live they have cameras at some intersections. But…they post signs saying the camera is there. SO………you slow down for intersections with cameras, and speed up with one that do not. Some deterent that is. Since my city has a police force that does not patrol, everyone speeds knowing they will never be caught.

A very timely week of strips for those of us who live in New York City. The speed cameras were first sold as “school safety” and were only around schools and only active during school hours…then they spread to non-school locations…and now Mayor Adams has signed legislation to have them running 24/7. Bait and switch, and the city pockets the money.

As far as I am concerned, they should have these cameras at every intersection, school zone, and cross walk.
