Lupin is at the anchor desk. Elvis is doing the reporting. I’m assuming that means Puck is conducting the lesson. I wonder who his student might be;)

My boys are the natural predator of the unwary bottle cap, but they’ll settle for bringing down a crumpled receipt if one gets separated from the herd.

I like the YouTube video of a cat grabbing and crumpling up paper as it comes from the printer.

That’s not big game, Elvis! Aim for bringing down a slab of thick-sliced bacon or a ham shank!

The tricky bit with ice-cream cones is cutting one out from the herd. Once you can get it on its own, it’s doomed.

And, Lady Bri, following on from yesterday, I can assure you that this isn’t the real world. This is a cardboard copy. (If you look closely, you can see the sticky tape in the corners.) We used to live in the real world, but they took it away from us and put us in this one in the mid 1970s. I noticed the switch because, although the copy is very similar, all the prices suddenly tripled.

Oh definitely a ham sandwich! Ham sandwiches are the whole reason for hunting lessons being so extremely vital to kitties! ♥

Let’s just hope I never have to rely on Kaboodle to bring down any big game for me. She has trouble with the idea of actually hunting anything. She can stalk a bug across the carpet and she might bap it to keep it moving, but the whole “kill and eat” part has apparently escaped her.

Luckily, she is cute (see picture) and will never have to fend for herself. If anything happens to me, there is a line of people who are willing to take her in. Almost creepy how many people want my cat if I die. Like how rich people must feel when young relatives start coming around to “help take care of them” when they get old, but actually just want Great Aunt Ida’s trust fund….

Our family cat, Noodge (1955-72) knew when my mother was expecting and would bring her dead mice. “Come on! You’re eating for two now!” Mom would politely thank her and pretend to eat the mouse. Manners, after all. :D

Our Lupin cat goes crazy for ham while Sooty Cat squeaks incredibly loud for Dreamies cat treats. They know what they like.

Last spring my 6 pound cat got outside for a week. She is not an outdoor cat and it was a bad weather week. She is a very shy cat and when I finely spotted her she just ran away. I lured her towards me with a chicken drumstick (her favorite) and was able to grab her. She was full of burrs and lost a whole pound and was quite traumatized. I knew by her green stool she just ate mostly vegetation. Her hunger and her love of chicken saved her life. I always have to share my chicken with her no matter how sneaky I try to be about it.

All of my cats came from outdoors but two of them lived as ferals for a long time (avatar cat was born feral) and were very good hunters. My tuxey specialized in snakes and frogs and my calico girl was an excellent mouser. They were very well supplied with wet and dry cat food, but kept up the hunting anyway.

Do those skills include jumping up on the dinner table, snagging some ham, er, prey, and getting away before the man and woman can react?

Day 2 with Gremlin. Last night when I went into my former bedroom to check on her water, food, and litter, she lunged out at me three times from under the bed. She would have drawn blood were it not for my wool socks. Slept in my new “bedroom” again, on the living room couch. Today after all my errands are done, I may go in there and sit quietly on the floor for awhile, and let her hear my voice. Never knew a cat so resistant to my charms :(

Happy Bluesday, orbsters and orbabies! Yum Yum, as I have said before, turns her nose up at people food. I, however, being a Kat of varied tastes, will eat pretty much anything, although I detest okra and bell peppers with the skins on upset my stomach.

I had a cat who fished for little rainbow fish and once brought down a quail. Kind of upsetting so the boys should stick to canned tuna and ice cream

Bacon can be very, very dangerous if it is only wounded. Only serious Hunter-Cats should pursue wild bacon in the kitchen.

Three or four years ago my Xander dove into the fireplace and caught a mouse. (Gas fireplace, it wasn’t on but the pilot light was lit… I think the mouse was trying to keep warm.) To this day he will sit in front of the fireplace staring, waiting for more “fire mice”.

My cat was a stray. Nine years later, his hunting skills are still finely honed. He’s a wonderful mouser.

He still hasn’t nabbed the little red dot, though. :-)

Miscreant is a fine mouser. So fine in fact I haven’t had mice in years. The mice must have a Mouse News Network of their own and Miscreant is public enemy number 1. As far as indoor hunting chicken and lamb do not stand a chance in my house. The 4 cats swirls like the dervishes they are and get what they want out of me. The dogs don’t care they wait patiently and will take anything I give them.

We grieve with Be Super and Valeries as they mourn the passing of Sky and Cinnamon over the Rainbow Bridge. They described their painful moments late yesterday, and if anyone wishes to send them a message, they are welcome to do so here or in their messages from Monday. ♥♥♥

And may Conan, GSD Mom’s furbaby, do well with his treatments with as little side effects as possible! We’re booping you sweet little Conan! We’re sending you and your orb to the Mega Core, where BeSuper and Valeries orbs are nestled against Georgia’s. We love you!!! ♥♥♥

    Warm heart ♥ hugs!!!

David Cattenborough here in the kitchen of the Big Pink House where three house cats stalk their prey. A ham sandwich is lying on the counter and Elvis decides to try his luck. His stalking technique is honed by hours of intensive thought. He uses a table leg as cover. He places his paws with great care to avoid making even the slightest noise on the linoleum. Now his success will depend on his timing. He pounces! And he gets it.

Just a note to all Orbsters—I don’t always see all of the comments and replies, especially later in the day. So I may not always respond individually to losses or illnesses. Just know that I love you all and you always have my sympathy and condolences for you, your humans and your furbabies whenever needed. Take care, and love one another!

Our cat Stormy was a great hunter outdoors at the cottage, but indoors, it was the ceramic toilet bowl knobs from the screws she would bat around. Which is why she ended up outside at night.
