I had a land line when I was working from home a few years back because I needed the line for a fax machine. The bill for that single line was more than what we now pay for two cellphones, a cell-based home phone (which replaced the land line to keep our “home” phone number), data connections for two cars, and a huge data plan shared by all. I’d love to have a land line again because they hardly ever go out in emergencies, but who can afford them any more?
I remember when touch tone first came out, you had to pay extra to have it working. Needless to say I was not going to pay extra so I had rotary dial phones for the longest time. Now, unless you have an old school POTS line on a copper pair, only touch tone works!

Oh, it’ll still crash – when you knock it off the table.

Plus you’ll always know just where it is.

Sorry Oldbot, you need to have fingers to use it, you have claws. It also has no memory, you will need a page notebook.

It can be tapped, however.

At least it’s cordless.

That phone doesn’t store data to begin with. It doesn’t even have speed dial.

That’s the phone I use now. I tried a touch phone for a while, but it was too much of a hassle.

Rotary dial, no less. Takes about a day to dial 911.
