A much sadder story than that of Snoopy and his siblings.

David Gilbert: [writes arc about Buckles almost dying in a car accident]

the fans: “Our boy nearly died! How could this possibly get worse‽”

David Gilbert: “You’re about to find out.”

    the fans: “Doggone it!”

In all seriousness, I like that Mr. Gilbert gave this comic a more solemn tone during this part of his tenure. Even the life of a happy-go-lucky dog like Buckles is bound to have sad and/or slower moments in between some of the more joyous occasions. Though his mother’s story will undoubtedly be a tear-jerker, it’s wonderful to know that Buckles even met a couple of his family members. In the words of Jill, “You have two families.”

I agree with Pet and Chess, I come here because Buckles is a sweet and happy strip.

I would have thought she would have been the first one he wanted to see when they got to the farm. I assume that she has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge as is looking down over them now.

When I took in a litter of kittens and their mother many years ago, I made sure I kept the mother because I knew it was unlikely anyone would take her and I felt she had been through enough. She lived to 20 and was the best momma anyone ever had.
