When you consider how topical these almost 30 year old cartoons were, Bill Watterson was not only the funniest cartoonist in history, he was also amazingly prophetic at the same time!!

It’s the consumer demand that really counts, Calvin. The customer is always right. You’d better take a pay cut if you want to stay in business.

It’s a pity that only the Susies of the world read this – the Calvins are too busy Calvinising it.

Market driven solutions, don’t like the price, don’t buy the product, producer figures it out eventually and either adjusts or another producer sells the same product at a more reasonable price.

Hi, JoanHelen. Hope things are going well in South Africa. Must be nice to live where the U.S. economy has no effect on you. (Just kidding – I remember you saying that when the U.S. economy sneezes, South Africa catches cold.) There are few places in the world that aren’t affected by the U.S. economy.

The kid has indeed real-world scarcity economics and even some political economy down pat. Sadly, next week he’ll probably be griping to Hobbes about the consumer driven greedy culture of corporate America. (Mind you, I’m a free market liberty fan; and today he nails it.)

Susie does too! The more options the consumer has, the better real pricing is; she SHOULD have choices and also be free to make them. This is not rocket science.

I am amazed to read these comments. Calvin demonstrates corporate greed at its worst and people here claim it’s how LIBERALS do business? That is simply dumb.

For all the Obama bashers out there may I remind you that this strip was written primarily during the Presidencies of Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr? Seems to me if it is aimed at anyone, those are the people at whom it is aimed. What — Bill Watterson has ESP and wrote this because he had a vision of Barack Obama becoming President?

Not only have they succeeded in reducing the average attention span to twelve minutes or thereabouts, they’ve arranged for those of us who are old enough to remember to be drugged silly and shoveled into warehouses.

Guess that fixes that …

Sure looks to me as if Capitalism has changed. These days it looks like government subsidized monopolies.

Greed will ultimately cause the demise of this country. For us, “The People,” to allow it to even get this bad is truly pathetic on our part.

I thought Watterson stopped drawing this strip in 1995 (per Wikipedia). True? The point here seems very up-to-the-minute!
