Tortellini is good. Fried ravioli is great!

Try the “monkey heads” trick again, or something similar.

At that age everything is nasty and gross until you find out what it is and taste it!

The first time I ate tortellini was in Italy. It was in a soup and they looked like floating embryos.

My mum never told us what was for dinner. She’d come up with some off-the-wall thing, instead. Maybe pizza with maple syrup, or chicken soup with fudge dumplings. But whatever was on the plate, we ate it, no questions asked.

Went to a farmer’s market with my grandfather when I was about 10. He bought a couple big New Zealand rabbits. Later I asked where the rabbits were. Grandma and grandpop came up with some story. I asked what was for dinner and they smiled and said Hausen.

Mom may fake you out, Calvin, and serve tortelloni instead of tortellini.

When I was growing up we ate what was placed before us including evening dinner. Hard times back then. We have waffles, had a waffle maker, and did our waffles. Mom at times, had floor furnace, a pot of beans on the furnace. I did not nor again want beans. Limit on waffles. Never heard or had tortellini. I goggled that. No my mom never fixed it. When we bought that I did not know how was done, we did not have computers so unknown how to prepare.

For those who have yet to google..Tortellini are ravioli folded differently. Stuffed pasta. The Italians have a thousand names for pasta, and pretty much it’s all the same thing in different shapes.

I live in a county of 75,000 people with dozens and dozens of burger joints and Mexican restaurants but not one single Italian place. Shoot, I’d settle for an Olive Garden. I like McDoubles and love pollo en mole (last night’s dinner, in fact) but sometimes you just want ravioli. Sigh.

Tortellini is actually gross, though. It typically contains different spices (more spices) than other stuffed pastas and the folding makes all of the flavors too dense. I never liked it as a kid, and still don’t.

Mom’s “No” is pretty calm. She’s used to this routine already.

He’s acting the same way I did when my grandma was having me try fried okra for the first time. I kept saying I didn’t like it even though I’d never had it. Guess who ate it all? Yep! ME! Loved it! And Calvin, you’ll love tortellini! How can anyone NOT love tortellini!

I have to give Calvin credit for knowing how to use a dictionary. It’s a dying art.

This reminds me of when I was a kid. I was always looking up words in the dictionary! But I remember a lot of kids were too lazy to do that. They just wouldn’t bother. I wonder if it’s any better now that kids can check definitions so easily on the internet.

When i was a kid, we had to choose whatever cook put on the buffet. If we didn’t like it, we would have to wait for delivery or lump it. Sometimes deserts were not made to order.

    Those were hard times.

Calvin, tortellini is great! Put some pesto on it… That’s like my favorite thing to eat before my fencing practice, because it’s fast, tasty, and full of energy.
