Lucky you, Cal. My Dad thought hard work and few luxuries built character. He was one of those “When I was a kid…” type fathers. Sad thing is, he was right.
I don’t care what you’ll say. Spam is good stuff. Fry up some spam with onions, put some cheese on top, and maybe a slice of tomato. I’m sorry, that is GOOD stuff.
Well, there’s his problem! If he is feeding his family Spam on a camping trip he’s doing it wrong. We often eat better camping than we do at home. My boys have learned to make some pretty complex stuff with a dutch oven.
Dad must be the worst camper ever. He’s like that city guy with no experience outside an urban environment who thinks he’s the great white explorer. He should have taken the motel option and then just gone on day hikes.
I’ve been a vegetarian since around 1992, but I’ll say this for Spam. Yuck!! It looks and smells like dog food and I had one bite of Spam. That was more than enough.
I fell asleep at the kitchen table because I would not eat Spam on my plate. Father made me sit there until I finished it. I didn’t and won’t eat Spam to this day.
You would think Calvin would love the opportunity to play with bugs and get dirty. Just think of what a fertile imagination like Calvin’s could do in the wild.

Spam (in case the fish aren’t biting).

To me, SPAM is only good as the Hawaiian snack musubi (although I’m not Hawaiian, but have been there twice).

Tonight set the canoe adrift while Dad is sleeping and that way you won’t have to fish in the morning and tell Dad it builds character.

Sometimes I wonder if I am the only person in the continental US that likes spam. I love it sliced, fried and in a sandwich with mayonnaise.

Mom should tell Dad that next vacation is HER choice, or he can get used to sleeping on the couch for the rest of his life

Want something other than spam on these trips? Learn how to catch fish and prepare them. It is not hard with a little aluminum foil.

The island can be a great outing for the family. Calvin needs to grow up to understand this aspect.
