What I don’t understand is how Cal can sooo easily forget what Susie will do to him, I.e. smack him with a nasty blaster of her own making.

There’s an algorithm for that.

This can be treated as cheat day and exceptions may be ok for Santa. What is wrong in throwing few snowballs between friends in this weather. Calvin will be anyway whacked by Susie.
