We used to run barefoot all summer. I’ll never forget the unpleasant sensation of a particularly large night crawler moving under the sole of my foot!

Now that I think of it, I don’t see worms on the sidewalks as much as I used to.

Here the slugs come out after the rains, not the worms. Mucking slugs is not something one does more than once.

Hobbes expression in panel four is priceless and somewhat explains the meaning of “mucking”.

I was just thinking about this one a few days ago. “Wormucking” still remains to be one of my favourite terms that Calvin has invented.

I’ll never forget a night back in April 1993 that a friend and I were driving in western NY outside of Rochester after a rain event. I don’t know what it was about that particular night but the worms were all over the road as we drove. The road was just covered for what seemed like 2 or 3 miles. I have never seen so many and you can hear the splatter/squish in the wheelwells as we drove along. It was awful.

Run worms. I try to teach my family to care for nature. Heck, I repurpose spiders from the house to one of my potted plants on the patio, using a cup.

I confess when I was a kid and it would, I found the worms that crawled out afterward to be gross.
