Not even a pounce and Calvin still jumped.
In the third panel, Calvin is scared out of his shirt and shoes, yet in the next panel, he has them on again. Kinda blunts the humor, IMO.
If he had protractor claws, he could help you with your math homework.
Hobbes has got him well conditioned.
Gives new meaning to the song, “Jump! For my love”.
He was cursing while re-dressing. This comic is PG, so that part was edited out.
Isn’t it too cold to sit on a bare floor anyway?
I loved this! I haven’t seen this one before! Love Calvin’s little shoes.
Retractable claws AND soft paws.
His shoes have visible soles ’till block 4.
A wonderful example of cartoon physics. The illusion of movement is extraordinary!
We see no underwear. Did they stay on when he jumped out of the rest of his clothes, or does Calvin not wear any?
Eh? But me no see him using them claws on ya at all.
Aren’t cats supposed to be the jumpy ones?
GOTCHA!
…..not as focused as I thought!!!!!
Remember when Calvin’s parents thought his comics were scaring him, not Hobbes? Was Hobbes still drawing mustaches on the characters at this point?
Must have been one good comic.
Not really. Maybe he landed right back in his clothes and shoes.
I first learned of retractable claws through “Calvin and Hobbes”, so when we adopted a cat and I saw him retract his claws, I fully understood what the comic strip was talking about.
Calvin hates retractable claws and I hate being scared so bad I die :)
If Hobbes only existed in Calvin’s imagination, he would never be able to take Calvin by surprise like this.
Yep, those Tigers be sneaky ! ;-)
Watterson had a talented brush. He could’ve easily had Calvin jump out of his skin, leaving a pint sized skeleton. That would’ve been next level fun!
Haha… Must be a really good book.
The same cats that can drift soundlessly across a room can also sound like a herd of elephants if they so choose.
That’s not nice, Hobbes!
