Frogs and bugs, a wonderful hobby…..

Here in the north, its still way too cold for frogs although the rivers are unfrozen.

The inscrutable exhortations of my soul … It is the Lenten season and time to start dealing with those buggers.

Looks like winter is over—no more funny snow sculptures from Calvin. SIGH!

He’ll be looking for locusts soon.

Is that an insect on the back of his flat head???!!!

I prefer interesting rocks: Easier to feed and water them and they don’t mind being in my sock drawer indefinitely.

I’m going to take a wild guess here, go out on a limb, so to speak, and suggest those exhortations of Calvin’s soul are more likely than not quite scrutable. Unless, of course, if Susie Derkins happens to like frogs.

Sometimes Calvin acts like a normal child.

Because they’re slimy and disgusting and can fit in Mom’s sock drawer.

One of my favorite quotes. The first time I read this, I assumed it was by some famous, deep philosopher. I guess that’s what Bill is at the end of the day!

Cal is 6. But gotta admit the impulse to look for living things in our flower beds can hit hard this time of year. Just like to see them and know they and the birds are there and still following their natural paths. I was once six but that was 83 years ago. Guess the ‘second childhood’ thing sometimes re-infects.

Don’t forget the crayfish. Their claws are très cool.

……..just in case….I do not find a frog!!!!

The frogs would be in the water waiting for you to leave so they can come back out on the shore safely.

Today’s strip reminds me of the Red and Rover strips in which they go searching for Moby Bullfrog. They originally searched for Moby Tadpole but later realised he would have grown into a bullfrog so they started searching for Moby Bullfrog.

Working on “show and tell” for school tomorrow.
