I think dressing dogs up if unfair to the dog. You think he wants to look like an idiot? I’m not one of those animal people, but that sounds like cruelty to me. (Though I admit to dressing up my hamster, but I was 7, so I think I’m excused.)

That woman spent money on stupid outfits for the dogs but has she contributed one cent to the household? They moved in because they lost all their money so where did she get the money for the dumb outfits? I agree with Librarian in training, I knew a woman who bought dumb outfits for her dogs and cats and took pix of them, and you could see by their expressions they did NOT like it one bit!

My mom’s friend puts a sweater on her dog in the winter but only because he’s a mixed breed that usually has a long curly coat to keep him warm but it’s really hard to keep clean and detangled so he spends the whole year with his fur clipped really short. But because he doesn’t have the fur to keep him warm she has to put something on him in the winter to do that for him. It’s the responsible thing to do. Either maintain the coat or look dorky by putting a sweater on your dog. But she buys $1 sweaters at Goodwill and trims the sleeves down. Which is nothing like the people who spend more money on stupid pet outfits in a year than some families do on food.

Someone bought my dog a sweater once, but got mad because I would not put it on him. I love my dog and trust me he did not need a sweater. So they tried to put it on them, he bite her. Funniest thing I ever seen.

Don’t you realize this is because there are no grandchildren for them to spoil and dress up. That’s why people will treat their animals like children when there aren’t any present in the home.

As long as the clothes don’t constrain the dog or interfere with sight or hearing…the dog doesn’t really care one way or the other. If you take good care of your dog and putting outfits on it makes YOU happy…go for it.

I tried putting a sweater on my arthritic cat one time (because he seemed to have pain in his back where somebody had shot him with a bebe gun) and we timed how long it took him to get it off – 20 seconds.
