Quite a few years ago I read an article on deer (whitetails, primarily) invading urbanized areas. Ignoring the question of habitat destruction for a moment, the then-chief of Philly’s department of public health suggested that the primary reason no one wanted to do anything about deer as disease vectors was because they had good PR, calling deer “big, cute rats with antlers.”
